Detailed itinerary

After breakfast we drive south towards the beautiful Lake Elizalde. On the way we shall pass Laguna Foitzick and various waterfalls on the river El Salto. From here we continue through the Simpson River National Park where there are few visitors and a great deal of wildlife. It is an ideal situation to observe Pudú, Condors and Huemuls. There are also spectacular vistas as we are entering the narrow Rio Simpson Gorge itself with its sheer granite walls rising 1.600 m. At Lake Elizalde we shall take time to enjoy the surroundings and walk amidst the dense forest of Coigues and Lenga trees around the deep blue lake. We shall take a different route back to Coyhaique passing the "Seis Lagunas" or Six Lagoons. Near here, in the Valley of the Rio Claro (River Clear), live the last remaining Huemuls. A smaller deer once plentiful in this part of the world. After passing the hanging bridge over the Rio Simpson, we shall see a spectacular reminder of former times in the shape of a rock structure named "Piedra del Indio". On a rock face high above the valley floor there is a tremendous Indian face. In the late afternoon we return back to Coyhaique.
