After breakfast we head south from Bariloche itself toward Lago Gutierrez. Then we turn into the Andes and follow the road up and along Lago Mascardi with its lush southern forests. After crossing the bridge of the calm River Manso, we continue toward Laguna Los Moscos and Lake Hess where we shall see a tremendous waterfall called Cascada de Los Alerces.
From the falls we continue in the direction of Tronador – a great mountain massif with three peaks: „Argentino" (3.410 m), „Internacional“ (3.554 m) and „Chileno“ (3.430 m). Argentina and Chile „have to“ share this mountain as it lies
right on the border of the two countries. By the way „Tronador“ means „Mountain of thunder“ – a very suitable name, that refers to the chunks of ice that tumble down the glacier and loudly thunder downhill. Another characteristic is the „black glacier“ because it is surprisingly dark an interesting geological phenomenon, there are only very few places on earth where this can be admired. Additionally there is no other glacier of its kind that is easy accessible like the Tronador. Short hikes take us near to the different glaciers. In the evening we shall return to Bariloche.
