TRAVEL IDEAS Penguin Colony Seno de Otway

In the afternoon we set out driving north towards the Penguin Colony located at Otway sound. On route we shall drive along the coast of the Straits of Magellan looking across the chilly arctic waters at Tierra del Fuego. Penguins can be seen here from October through March. This is the season when they come to give birth and raise their young.
It is a southern barren next the sea popular amongst the Penguins with well-marked trails and blinds. These walkways are designed to give visitors a means of harmlessly mingling with these curious little characters. Most penguins are naturally more curious and trusting than you will be expecting. Please police yourself. Use common sense and do not spoil this terrific opportunity for the others who will come behind you. It is about two kilometers walk to get into the middle of the colony and back again. This outing runs only in the afternoon for the simple reason that this is when the penguins come back to the beach from the ocean fishing. In the evening we shall return to Punta Arenas.
